UV Rays don't just damage your skin...

Did you know that summer is one of the worst seasons for our hair? We all love to take time off, bask in the sun, and enjoy some relaxation. But you might not be aware a major areas where summer damage occurs! Today we're talking about how UV rays affect your hair. Not only can it make your color fade, but it can cause dryness and loss of protein.

UV Rays ☀️

YES. The sun is a major contributor to extra damage in the hair. Based on a study from the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, after being exposed to sunlight, "all hair types showed a substantial increase in protein loss. The damaging effect of UVB was about 2–5 times higher than that of UVA plus visible radiation and significant color changes were also observed in every hair type, after lamp and sun irradiation, being more pronounced for the light colored hairs. The luminosity difference parameter was the major contributor to the hair color change."

So in a nutshell, UVA and UVB rays break down hair fibers, leaving your hair porous and prone to dehydration, breakage, and color molecules leaching. The sun’s radiation also changes color values, taking away “cool” tones and firing up reds and yellows, which turns your hair brash and brassy. The best healthy hair tip to lock in color? Using a product with UV protection built in, like Color Wow Pop & Lock. Formulated with UV filters, it locks down cuticles with a high-gloss top coat, trapping and holding color. The result? Color that pops and has a mirror-like reflection.
