Top 5 Must-Have Hair Products

Have you ever looked at your bathroom counter where all those used hair product bottles sit, and thought, "When was the last time I used that?".There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a product whore, especially if it smells good... But did you know that product expires? Yup, sure does. So if you're in need of a little spring cleaning, I've got a great solution.

I'm going to give you the top 5 products you NEED to have on your counter. And after this if you still have extra, don't worry. I won't tell ;)

LEAVE IN CONDITIONER

Leave in conditioner comes in many forms like a spray bottle, a creme, or a foam. But do you know why you need it? Its primary function it to smooth the cuticle, detangle the hair, and usually adds heat protection. And depending on which kind you get, they sometimes have extra bonuses like my personal favorite, Living Proof's 5 in 1. Perfect hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment is powered by both the Healthy Hair Molecule (OFPMA) AND LP's Thickening Molecule (PBAE). It not only gives heat protection but it conditions and strengthens, adds shine, and styles with volume and smoothness! And it that wasn't enough, it's silicone, paraben, and phthalate free, provides UV protection, and is safe for color and chemically treated hair! BAM! 🤩 This is one of my best selling products because its easy to use creme base keeps it from being to heavy on the hair and is a client fav! Get yours on my products page, here:

ROOT BOOSTER

If you've ever sat in my chair, you know I love some volume. And no, I don't mean Texas hair... although it is pretty sweet. A root booster is a great product for anyone, whether you're a huge "volume" fan or not. Have yo

u ever blowdried your hair and thought, "Wow, I did pretty good!" only for it to fall and look flat later? This is where a root boosters comes in. It gives your roots a little extra oomph and texture so they aren't soooo smooth and flat.

It's so much easier to put in volume AT THE BEGINNING of the blow dry vs finishing and then trying to go back and put volume in, especially at the root.

Where most people go wrong, it they try to put the root spray on their scalp vs 1-3" away from the scalp. Think about using a round brush and where it sets on the hair the the bristles touch your scalp. The round part of the brush sits off the scalp and that's where your product needs to go. Make sure you spray it section by section for the best results! My current fav is the Brazilian Blowout Root Lift Spray. It smells good and works sooo well!

Another great root booster is the Living Proof Dry Volume Blast. It is SO easy to use and can actually be used all over for a boost in body as well!

Hair Spray

I'm pretty sure everyone's idea of what hairspray does and is used for is strictly based on age. The younger the client, the less "hold" they seem to want. Well, thank goodness there's different levels of hold for hairspray nowadays!

Finding the perfect hairspray can be a little difficult if you don't know what to look for, so I'm going to break it down for you.

  1. Hold: Each can will say tighter say light, medium, or strong hold (or some variation).

  2. Heat protec

tion: Many hairsprays now come with heat protection in them which is AMAZING. Normally, that will mean you could use it wet or dry. I love using a lightweight spray with heat protection for flat ironing or curling the hair for that extra level of shine and protection, like the Living Proof Flex Spray. It's super lightweight, not crunchy, and smalls great.

  1. Heaviness: This one's going to be tougher to find out so make sure to ask your stylist for a recommendation. If a hairspray is heavier, when you spray the mist into the air, you will actually see the droplets falling down. If a hairspray is lightweight, it looks more like a fine mist and the mist floats upward. The heavier the hairspray, the stiffer the hold.

Deep Conditioner

Honestly, IMO this one is a no brainer. EVERYONE needs a deep conditioner. It doesn't matter if you have fine hair or thick hair. Our ends get dry from heat damage and need a little TLC. The bonus about deep con

ditioners is, again, they come is all different types for different hair types. My absolute favorite is the B3 Instant Restore and Protect Reconstructor because it protects against breakage, helps strengthen and reinforce hair bonds, provides intensive hydration and the best of all, prevents color fade! To me, this is the Cadillac of deep conditioners.

Pro tip: If your hair gets oily at the scalp easily, only deep condition the "pony tail". This way you still get the benefits without the oily roots.

Dry Shampoo

Did I save the best for last? Yes, yes I did. Ok so if you haven't tried dry shampoo, I'm pretty sure you're been living under a rock. Dry shampoo is the product I sell the most in my salon. And I only carry the Living Proof Dry Shampoo because of how well it works. And believe me, I've tried so many over the years. What I love about it is that it actually cleans my hair instead of badly masking the oil like so many other brands do. I do not want to walk around looking like I have a pound of flour on my head.

Dry shampoo is not only great for refreshing 2nd or 3rd day hair but it's also great on freshly washed and blowdried hair too. If you blow dry and notice you're roots are a little too soft, go ahead and give a blast of dry shampoo. It will give you roots a little something extra and keep them from looking oily 6 hours later.

If you need a visual on how to use it, check out my YouTube video tutorial here:

I hope you found this post super helpful. Next time you're in my salon chair, make sure to ask for your personal product recommendation. Nobody knows you're hair better... besides you of course 😉
